Ministry/Group Name: Habitat for Humanity Commission: Church and Society Mission/Purpose: Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization that welcomes volunteers from all faiths who are committed to Habitat's goal of eliminating poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity brings families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing. The houses are sold at no profit. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are recycled to build additional homes. Regular Activities: One Saturday each month, 8:00-4:30. Work activities are assigned based on the current construction schedule. Activities can include exterior work, hanging drywall, floor care and plumbing-whatever is needed. Assistance cleaning is always appreciated. Spiritual Growth/Benefits of Participating in this Ministry: "The knowledge that you have worked alongside someone who is working to earn a home is very rewarding. It is also a good feeling to restore older homes in Milwaukee and revitalize a neighborhood." (Laura Gall, SSPP Habitat Volunteer). When a house is finished and the new owners are moving in, there is a House Blessing that all volunteers are invited to. It's a special day for the homeowners and volunteers alike - the culmination of a lot of hard work! Habitat for Humanity is a great way to help others, develop new skills, & make new friends. Specific Requirements to Consider if Participating in this Ministry:Volunteers must be adults, at least eighteen years of age, or be between the ages of 16 and 18 and accompanied by a parent.
