Mission/Purpose:
To provide educational opportunities to Saints Peter and Paul Parish on social justice issues in the context of the Catholic faith and Church teachings.

We meet once a month (sometimes less) to plan events, postcard campaigns, speakers, bulletin inserts, etc.

Past events include:

  • Postcard campaign to end sanctions in Iraq
  • Postcard campaign to take US and Russian nuclear missiles off hair-trigger alert
  • Sponsored speaker Tom Seery of Peace Action who spoke on Iraqi sanctions
  • Voter information handouts during November election
  • Bulletin inserts on social justice topics:
    • Labor rights
    • Domestic Abuse
    • Materialism/Consumerism
    • Capital Punishment

Spiritual Growth/Benefits of Participating in this Ministry:
Participants learn what the Catholic Church says about various social justice issues. They will also learn of ways to become more active in areas of social justice.

Specific Requirements to Consider if Participating in this Ministry:
Time committment: approximately 1.25 - 1.5 hours per month for meetings. Some outside time for research, writing and organizing as necessary.
