Ministry/Group Name: Marriage Preparation Ministry Commission: Christian Formation Mission/Purpose: Married Couples meet with Engaged Couples, one-on-one, for the purpose of better preparing the Engaged Couple for the sacrament of marriage. Relying heavily on the Archdiocesan tool called FOCCUS, the two couples engage in discussion on a broad range of topics, from communication and problem solving to religion and values. Regular Activities: Meet with engaged couples to help them prepare for the sacrament of marriage. A married couple interested in this ministry would be provided with a one-day formal training workshop by the Archdiocese. The number of meetings you have with each Engaged Couple varies, but it is typically three two-hour meetings. At SSPP, Married Couples are usually assigned four Engaged Couples per year. A Coordinating Couple provides any support you may need, and tries to ensure that the pace of the ministry is comfortable for you. The 10-12 Married Couples involved in this ministry do gather occasionally to share experiences.
